Procedure: Small amount of sample is collected in a test tube and an indicator reagent is added to the sample. Use the dropper bottle, the titrant, until the color changes. To calculate the concentration just multiply the number of drops required by the titrant by a simple factor given in the test kit manual.

The sample is made alkaline (pH 12-13) with sodium hydroxide precipitate Magnesium us magnesium hydroxide. Calcium Indicator is added and contains with any calcium to from a pink color. As EDTA is added, It reacts with the free calcium as present. When no free calcium is available, then EDTA reacts with the indicator causing a color change to Purple.
